Huang Miao, Taiyuan, Shanxi
(August 30, 2012)

(1) Back in Taiyuan, I took local buses to the vicinity of my only remaining "list"temple for this trip, just a couple of kilometers from my hotel. Wandering through the alleys of this old district, I ran across a few interesting sights. One is Huang Miao, about which I know nothing. But what a pile of bricks! This ill-tended front gate tells you that this place was really something.

(2) It looks like a few halls inside have been restored, and then started to run down again. Because of time, I went no further in than this. But I am intrigued.

(3) The massive screen wall is also in disrepair.

(4) A close-up of the bottom-right of the outside of the screen wall shows it's a few bricks shy. Ordinarily these would be plastered over and painted.

+ + + + + + + +

I reached Chongshan, the temple on my list, but just stayed a moment, as Ghost Festival rituals were in full swing. I walked to a restaurant, had dinner, and came back to the hotel. I'll do my "official" visit tomorrow or the next day. Bedtime!
